Everlaw

Everlaw is a collaborative, cloud-based litigation platform that enables legal teams to discover, analyze, and organize information to better drive internal investigations and positively impact litigation outcomes. Working with a design team of five, I launched a number of new and updated features.

Expand one click terms to EQL builder across site

Everlaw is built on a powerful search tool that offers users the ability to specify exactly the documents they are looking for at any given time. There are numerous search terms on the search page as well as ‘hidden’ search terms that are created from specific pages or functions. These search terms can also be used in many workflows across the site, e.g. assignments, PC models, per doc permissions, through what we refer to as “EQL builders”.

Currently the EQL builders list the high-level category of the search terms (document, review, metadata) and the available options are contained in a dropdown. We restrict the set of options based on technical constraints as well as workflow reasonableness. The workflows these EQL builders are associated with are often very specific. We also have a good understanding and available data on what search terms are used within each workflow.

The intention of this feature was to elevate the most useful and popular search terms and make searching for other search terms easier.

Before

Currently the search terms are found within its category drop down. We want to expose the most common terms per builder for a quicker workflow.

After

I used the existing and familiar terms structure shown here below on the project search page. I then worked with product and dev to determine the most used terms per search builder.

Production endorsement customization

Background

In production we allow users to customize images by stamping text into the corners of documents. This can be either uniform text across all documents, or variable text based on specific coding. For certain protocols and use cases, we would like additional flexibility. In addition to the corners, we will allow users to stamp the top or bottom center and give more options regarding the color.

Use Cases

  • Trial exhibit numbering needs to be centered

  • Client desires confidentiality stamp in red to stand out

My goal was to make it as easy as possible for the user to change stamp colors. At first, I realized my first few iterations were not accessible to our potential color vision deficient users.

After

The color vision deficient user can use supporting text to make their decision. My solution solved for accessibility and consistency, as I used an existing drop down component from our design system.
